- WHERE TO STAY AND EXPLORE IN PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN
Mallorca is a Balearic island off the coast of Spain (Near Barcelona) It is a 1 hour flight from Barcelona or there are a limited amount of direct flights from random airports (EWR - Newark, NJ) being one of them a few days a week in season. The island is small and it takes 1 hour - 1 1/2 hours to get from one side to the other. You can stay 5-7 days and see most of the island. You land in Palma, which is the city of Mallorca. It is a central location to stay if you want a city vibe or you can go West or East to more remote villages for your stay. Every village has shops, cafes and restaurants. Palma being a city has some luxury shops, but mostly reasonable cost / casual attire clothes. The villages you will find more boutique / tourist items. **You must rent a car since there is limited transportation if you go to the villages. Everywhere you go there is parking, so you don’t need to worry about it. I do recommend renting the smallest car possible that will still fit your bags since many streets are small and parking have tight space. HOTELS Depending on which side of the island you want to stay, will determine which hotel. Palma is a city vibe and these hotels are luxury but boutique Hotel Can Cera El Llorenç Parc de la Mar Can Aulí Luxury Retreat - Adults only Puro Grand Antigua Palma Finca Serena (30 mins north of Palma) Sant Francesc Hotel Singular Sant Francesc Hotel Singular is a boutique hotel in the heart of Palma. Walking distance to everything! Formenter is the North side of the island and known for its beach low key vibe. Can Simoneta (north east side of the island) Pleta de Mar, Luxury Hotel by Nature (north east side of the island) The Four Seasons Formentor The Four Seasons is the most luxurious and stunning hotel on the island and it is the only hotel on the beach and on the most beautiful beach on the island, this is a WIN! It is extremely expensive but worth it if you have the financial means to stay at the hotel. Deia is on the West Side of the island and it has both mountains and beach and it’s closer to the surrounding villages that most people come to Mallorca to explore. La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel, Mallorca Santanyi is on the East side of the island and it’s my personal favorite. It’s only a 1 hour drive to the West side that you can easily take a day trip to that side, so If you prefer a more remote and tranquil luxury hotel, within a charming village that has a market on Saturday and close proximity to many of the most beautiful beaches. Can Ferrereta Hotel (This is where I stayed and it is one of the best hotels I have experience. It is modern, but still holds the rustic Mallorca vibe) The service is impeccable, the attention to detail is exceptional and the amenities are stunning! Cal Reiet Holistic Retreat (this hotel / retreat is a 10 mins walk from Can Ferrerta Hotel. It offers yoga sessions and a has the most AMAZING vegetarian cuisine I have ever tasted! If you don’t stay there, it’s a must try for dinner. The property is a charming 1881 Villa with a magnificent garden.) VILLAGES Palma Central Location and 10 mins drive from airport (Stroll Palma's Paseo del Borne and Avenida Jaime III & Paseo Borne where you’ll find beautiful trees surrounding the street and plenty of shops and restaurants.) The beach that is close by is very small and mostly rock) Valldemossa (15 mins drive from Deia) (Quaint small village worth seeing and walking the area) Sóller (15 mins drive from Deia or 30 mins from Valldemossa) (It is the most popular of all the villages in Mallorca since it has many restaurants, shops and markets) Fornalutx (10 mins drive from Sóller) EAST SIDE OF THE ISLAND Santanyi (50 mins drive from Palma and 70 mins drive from Deia) NORTH SIDE OF ISLAND Alcúdia (46 mins drive from Palma) (This side of the island is mostly low key beach vibe and not much luxury. If you don’t have much time, it’s not a must see) Formentor and Mirador des Colomer An insanely spectacular panaramic view BEACHES S'Amarador beach (East side of the island and 10 mins from Santanyi) Cala Del Moro - (East side of the island and 5 mins drive from Santanyi. The beach is a strenuous nature hike just to get to the beach, so if you’re not in the best physical shape, I do not advise - although it is the most beautiful beach on the island) TOURS Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca (this is the cathedral in Palma) Drach Caves (Not great, but if you like caves or have children it might be worth it) Cap de Formentor (Hiking path that has a spectacular view) GARDENS Jardins d'Alfàbia Raixa Estate and Garden
- Lake Como: Where to Stay, Explore & Eat
Como - Lenno - Menaggio - Varenna - Bellagio “When you write a story of two happy lovers, let the story be set on the banks of Lake Como.” — Franz Liszt Lake Como is surrounded by dramatic mountains, colorful villages, historic villas and beautiful gardens. There are dozens of towns along the lake, but you don’t need to visit them all. For a first trip, I would focus on Como, Cernobbio, Lenno, Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna. Getting Around You can explore Lake Como by ferry or car. I recommend a car so you can travel at your own pace. The ferry has limited time availability and there is no uber service. A private car service will become expensive. The ferry is the easiest way to travel between the central lake villages, particularly Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna since they are on different sides of the lake but in a triangle form so 15-20 minutes ferry ride between them. If you’re driving, I recommend exploring the western shore. The road hugs the lake and passes beautiful villages, hotels and viewpoints. There is essentially one main road, so traffic can significantly affect travel times. I also recommend renting a private boat for a few hours. Some of the most beautiful views of Lake Como’s villas and villages are from the water. COMO Como is the largest and most city-like stop on the lake, with pedestrian streets, restaurants, boutiques and bakeries. One of my favorites is Beretta Il Fornaio for fresh breads and pastries. Como is a great starting point before continuing north along the western shore. CERNOBBIO: VILLA D’ESTE About 10–15 minutes by car from Como is Villa d’Este, one of Lake Como’s most iconic hotels. Originally built in the 16th century, the property later became a luxury hotel and still maintains its elaborate old-world Italian style. Even if you’re not staying here, stop for lunch and walk through the beautiful gardens overlooking the lake. Where to eat: Veranda at Villa d’Este. LENNO: VILLA DEL BALBIANELLO Continue north to Villa del Balbianello, one of the most recognizable villas on Lake Como and a filming location for Casino Royale and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. You can explore the gardens independently, but I recommend taking a guided tour of the villa. Its former owner, explorer Guido Monzino, filled the property with art, artifacts and objects collected during his expeditions around the world. He even went to the North Pole This is one of my must-see places on Lake Como. MENAGGIO Menaggio is quieter than Bellagio and Varenna, which is exactly what I loved about it. The waterfront promenade is one of my favorite walks on the lake, surrounded by trees, flowers, mountains and beautiful water views. Where I Stayed: Grand Hotel Victoria I stayed at Grand Hotel Victoria and would absolutely recommend it for travelers who prefer contemporary luxury. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is peaceful and the location makes it easy to take the ferry to Bellagio and Varenna. The food was another highlight. I had one of the best spaghetti pomodoros of my trip here—good enough that I immediately ordered a second portion. In the evenings, live music adds to the atmosphere, and the hotel has beautiful outdoor spaces and a pool. The property also introduced a lakefront beach club experience in 2026. TREMEZZINA: GRAND HOTEL TREMEZZO For a more classic Italian experience, stay at Grand Hotel Tremezzo. I stayed here as well and loved the old-world charm, beautiful pools, exceptional service and incredible lake views. Breakfast is excellent, and there are walking paths above the hotel with panoramic views over Lake Como. Grand Hotel Victoria: modern, quiet and understated. Grand Hotel Tremezzo: classic, glamorous and quintessentially Lake Como. LUXURY HOTEL OPTIONS Lake Como has some of the most beautiful luxury hotels in Italy, ranging from historic villas to sleek contemporary resorts. Grand Hotel Victoria — Menaggio Modern, peaceful and one of my personal favorites. I stayed here and loved the service, food and location, especially for easy access to Bellagio and Varenna. Grand Hotel Tremezzo — Tremezzina Classic Lake Como glamour with beautiful pools, gardens, exceptional dining and incredible views. I stayed here as well and had an amazing experience. Villa d’Este — Cernobbio One of Lake Como’s most iconic hotels, known for its history, elaborate gardens and traditional Italian elegance. Passalacqua — Moltrasio An intimate historic villa with only 24 suites, magnificent gardens and a private, residential atmosphere. Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como — Blevio A luxurious lakefront resort surrounded by gardens, with a beautiful spa and a quieter setting close to Como. Il Sereno Lago di Como — Torno Sleek, contemporary and design-focused. A great choice for travelers who prefer modern architecture over traditional Italian décor. Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni — Bellagio A historic grand hotel in the heart of Bellagio and an excellent choice for travelers who want to stay within one of the lake’s most famous villages. The Lake Como EDITION — Cadenabbia One of the lake’s newest luxury hotels, bringing a more contemporary, stylish option to the western shore. VILLA CARLOTTA Near Grand Hotel Tremezzo is Villa Carlotta, a historic villa surrounded by botanical gardens. It’s beautiful, but if your time is limited, I would prioritize Villa del Balbianello and Villa Monastero. Its a mid-nineteenth centery villa that was given to Princess Charlotte as a wedding present. It is a 10 minute drive south from Menaggio. It is beautiful, but if you don't have much time, I would not advise touring it. The Villa Monastero in Varenna is far more worthwhile. Below are photos of Villa Carlotta which you will be able to compare with the photos you will find later in this blog of Villa Monastero. BELLAGIO Bellagio is Lake Como’s most famous village and one of its busiest. It’s filled with restaurants, boutiques, steep stone staircases and beautiful lake views. The best way to experience it is simply to wander. I especially loved being here around sunset. About a 15-minute walk from the Bellagio ferry area is I Giardini di Villa Melzi, a peaceful lakefront garden worth visiting. Destination Dara Tip: Check the return ferry schedule before dinner. Ferries do not operate throughout the night. 15 minutes walk minutes walk from center of Bellagio near ferry port is I Giardini di Villa Melzi As the saying goes, "save the best for last." My favorite village in Lake Como is definitely Varenna! VARENNA Varenna is my favorite village on Lake Como. It’s smaller, romantic and incredibly picturesque. When you arrive by ferry, don’t immediately stop at the crowded restaurants near the port. Continue walking along the waterfront path and you’ll discover quieter restaurants, cafés and beautiful views. That’s how I found Hotel Royal Victoria, where I had gnocchi pomodoro and a Bellini overlooking the lake. VILLA MONASTERO + VILLA CIPRESSI Villa Monastero is my favorite garden experience on Lake Como. The historic property originated as a monastery and today includes a museum and a long botanical garden directly along the lake. Nearby you’ll also find Villa Cipressi, known for its beautiful terraced botanical gardens descending toward the water. If you love gardens, you can easily experience both while you’re in Varenna. Villa Monastero As you walk back to the port, you will find more little paths that lead you to restaurants, gelato cafes, shops and a charming abandoned house. Varenna is worth the day trip or a few days if you happen to find a hotel that meets your requirements. I personally choose the hotel in Menaggio because it was the most modern of the hotels I researched in Lake Como and a perfect location to explore all the areas, while still having peace and quiet at the end of the day since it's not a tourist location. ORRIDO DI BELLANO About a 10-minute drive north of Varenna, Orrido di Bellano is a natural gorge with waterfalls and walkways through dramatic rock formations. It’s a great addition if you want a break from villas and villages. NESSO For another beautiful nature stop, Nesso is a tiny village known for the Orrido di Nesso, a dramatic gorge and waterfall flowing between old stone buildings. It’s especially worthwhile if you’re exploring this side of the lake by car or boat. If you want nature without crowds: Greenway del Lago di Como → easy scenic walk along villages Brunate (via funicular) → insane panoramic views Monte Grona → more rugged, dramatic alpine feel Sentiero del Viandante → long trail with quiet sections and views Como Point Of View, Via Attilio Pirotta, 1, 22034 Brunate CO, Italy For hiking, look into Monte Grona or sections of the Sentiero del Viandante along the eastern shore. WHERE TO EAT Lago Restaurant — Grand Hotel Victoria Veranda— Villa d’Este Il Sereno Al Lago— Il Sereno Ristorante Visteria— Hotel Royal Victoria La Terrazza— Grand Hotel Tremezzo Kitchen Roteo WHEN TO VISIT May, June and September are some of my favorite months to experience Lake Como, with beautiful weather and generally fewer visitors than peak July and August. MY LAKE COMO ESSENTIALS If you’re short on time, prioritize Villa del Balbianello, Bellagio, Varenna and Villa Monastero. For accommodations, I loved Grand Hotel Victoria for its modern luxury and peaceful location and Grand Hotel Tremezzo for a more classic Italian experience. And don’t forget to experience the lake itself. Whether you’re traveling by ferry or spending a few hours on a private boat, seeing the villages, mountains and villas from the water is one of the most beautiful parts of Lake Como. Destination Dara Tip: Don’t try to check off every village. Choose a few places you really want to experience and leave time for an unplanned cappuccino, gelato or long lunch overlooking the lake.
- THE RITZ CARLTON RESERVE, DORADO BEACH, PUERTO RICO
The Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is widely considered one of the finest luxury resorts in the Caribbean and one of the flagship properties in the exclusive Ritz-Carlton Reserve collection. - PARIS, FRANCE
Tu me manques. The French way of saying “I miss you” translates more literally to “You are missing from me.” That is exactly how I felt about Paris before I ever visited—as though a part of me was already there. I have always loved French films with English subtitles. They are romantic, dramatic and REAL! If you enjoy witty romantic comedies, watch Priceless, starring Audrey Tautou and Gad Elmaleh. Another favorite is Midnight in Paris, which captures the fantasy of traveling back to a time when some of the world’s greatest artists and writers found their inspiration in Paris. Paris is my favorite city in Europe. It has an elegance that feels modern while transporting you back in time. The history, art, architecture, culture, cuisine, pastries, gardens and, of course, the shopping! What more could you ask for? I could spend hours exploring its palaces and museums, admiring the intricate interiors and imagining the lives once lived within those walls. “Paris is always a good idea.” - Audrey Hepburn I have visited Paris in spring, summer and winter, and each season feels completely different. Paris is one of the few cities I would happily return to in the cold. Christmas and New Year’s bring something magical: sparkling lights, elaborate decorations and an energy that makes simply walking through the city an experience. I especially love visiting the luxury hotels to see their holiday displays—even when I’m not staying there. In spring, my idea of a perfect afternoon is wandering through the gardens, sitting on a bench with a French pastry and people-watching before strolling along the Seine. Sometimes, the best part of Paris is leaving time to enjoy being there. A few tips for planning your visit: Reserve ahead. Book the museums, palaces and experiences you care most about as early as their booking windows allow. Popular time slots can sell out, and advance reservations can help reduce time spent waiting. Start early. I prefer booking one or two nearby sights in the morning, followed by lunch and an afternoon exploring gardens, shops and the surrounding streets. Early visits often feel calmer, although some sites stay busy throughout the day. Explore by area. Paris is wonderful on foot when you group nearby sights together. For longer distances, take a taxi or Uber—and bring comfortable shoes. You will want to keep walking! TOP PARIS DISTRICTS Louvre / Palais Royal — 1st Arr. Place des Vosges, one of the most beautiful squares in Paris Excellent boutique shopping (fashion, home décor, and specialty shops) Charming cafés and pastry shops Great streets to wander and photography ***ATTEND AN OPERA OR BALLET AT Palais Garnier Get lost on all the street and admire the Parisian architecture TOURS Eiffel Tour (It is best to tour at night since it’s mesmerizing to see the vast city lights captivating you from high above.) The Arc de Triomphe (I recommend touring this during the day, so you can see Paris with its lush green and astonishing symmetry) Palais Garnier Opera (A must see! If you can attend a show at night, I advise it. If Opera or ballet isn’t your thing, visit during the day and you won’t regret it) If you attend a show at night, you get a chance to see the rooms empty and it’s truly spectacular. The Louvre (If you’re into art, you’ll love it. If you’re not, you’ll be bored - It’s worth seeing the outside at night, as the pyramid is lit up beautiful.) Notre Dame (It was closed when I was visiting due to the fire. It was still worth seeing from the outside and exploring that area that has shops, cafes and a medieval façade. Across the street is the Sainte - Chapelle which is known for its stain glass windows and sadly it was closed the day I tried to see it) Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre (The church you can enter for free and there is a separate entrance for a higher level that overlooks Paris. This area Montmarte is worth a visit and is a 20-30 mins drive from central Paris. It’s the artistic district so it has boutique shops and creative works of art with cafes you can sit outside. Seine (Walk along it since it’s nice to see, especially if the weather is warms. You’ll find many people having picnics or riding bikes) Jardin du Luxembourg (A peaceful park and garden to sit and relax) Jardin du Palais Royal Musee Rodin Hotel de la Marine Musesum The Orsay Museum Pastry / cooking class (It’s a nice activity even if you’re not a good chef) LIDO (burlesque show at night if you are seeking Parisian entertainment *nudity) HOTEL PHOTOS Hôtel Plaza Athénée captures everything I love about Paris: elegant interiors, iconic red awnings and flower-filled balconies overlooking Avenue Montaigne. Surrounded by couture boutiques, it brings together Parisian glamour, exceptional dining and, from select rooms, views of the Eiffel Tower. The Chopard hotel in Paris is called 1, Place Vendôme - An intimate retreat from the family behind the jewelry house, it has just five rooms and ten suites, each individually decorated and named after gemstones or precious materials. Think elegant Parisian interiors and the atmosphere of a private residence in an iconic setting. (A hidden gem in the heart of Paris) The Ritz Paris Hotel is iconic. It isn’t just where Coco Chanel and many other celebrities have lived or stayed over the years, it’s magical! During Christmas it’s the most extravagantly decorated hotel in Paris and in summer the property is so beautiful and peaceful to have lunch or just go to the outdoor area behind the lobby and sit to listen to nature. If you do have lunch at Bar Vendome - have the veggie burger and French fries! Or have tea time in their tea room. Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris Hotel This hotel is STUNNING! The flowers and decor are always over the top in the lobby and restaurants. I’ve had dinner a few times at both and they are 10/10! The Peninsula Hotel This hotel is elegant and modern with classic charm. Our room was spacious with a very large walk in closet and a bathroom that had his and her sides to it. We also had a seating area. (I apologize for my room photos being not so clear, I forgot to take photos and I only took a video so I had to screen shot the video) The hotel has a rooftop that in warm weather it’s nice to sit outside and overlook the Effiel tower. Maison Villeroy This hotel is perfection! It’s a mansion with 11 rooms that are modern and STUNNING! The detail in all things between the decor, service and ambience. It is also the perfect location. A true hidden gem. I will say, it also holds a special place in my heart because my love proposed to me at this hotel and surprised me by flying my family in to witness the moment! The hotel was so kind in arranging the engagement for him to propose to me. JK Place Hotel This hotel is a smaller boutique vibe, but they are attentive and it’s very clean. The room was spacious and had a small walk in closet. DAY TRIP Versailles - 40 mins drive from central Paris (**Something special most people don’t know. YOU CAN STAY AT VERSAILLES and be treated like Royalty! Yes, it’s true! I did it. You stay in a wing at the end of the palace that was once the Controllers Estate, that is now transformed into a boutique hotel called Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle and you feel like you transported back in time. They called me “My Lady”, they are dressed in attire from a different time period. I had teatime, a royal feast for dinner, a Royal wake up call in the morning and the list of Royal treatment goes on….) The best part about staying at Versailles is you get private tours of the King and Queens Chambers after hours and access to the garden. I stayed in winter so the garden wasn’t green and vibrant, but I went back and stayed in summer and it was alive. If you take a day trip, you need 2-5 hours depending how much you want to see since the Palace is very large and the grounds are even larger! There are smaller Estates on the property that are worth visiting.) When stayed in summer, I went outside the to the garden before the palace opened to the public and it’s was surreal. I looked out at all the gardens and fountains and thought “woah, imagine being king or queen back in time and this is your home. You built this. You can walk this any time day or night. You can hear the silence of the morning with only a few birds flying by and the fountains flowing around the property.” (If you cannot afford to stay there or just prefer to visit during the day, Versailles Palace is a must see and a guided tour is recommended since the history is fascinating! Versailles has a charming village to walk after you tour the Palace.) Monet Garden in Giverny - 1 hour drive from central Paris (Monet lived here and most of the inspiration for his paintings came directly from his garden.) Walking distance Musée des impressionnismes Giverny Champagne Region - 1 1/2 hours drive from central Paris (There are a few different wineries depending on your taste in wine.) How to make the most of your trip to Spain - Where to stay and what is worth seeing! This itinerary takes you from Madrid -->Malaga --> Marbella --> Seville --> Madrid You might think to yourself, "How can I see all these cities in 5 days and that sounds exhausting!" The truth is, this type of trip is for those who are adventure seekers, who want a taste of everything and want to fill their days with activities, without much down time. You can obviously make your stay longer in each location and still stay and see what I recommend, but at a slower pace and allow yourself more time to relax, if that is what you prefer. You take the red-eye flight from wherever your home is and overnight to Madrid. You will land in Madrid in the early morning and take a flight directly to Malaga (1 hour and 20 mins) but it goes by much quicker. (Make sure to leave enough time between these two flights since Madrid airport is large and very confusing.) Day 1 - You will land in Malaga hopefully by 12 the latest, which will allow you time to rent a car and drive to your hotel Gran Hotel Miramar. It is about a 20 mins drive. You will check in and if your room is not available, you can sit outside by the pool and have a delicious lunch or book yourself a massage since it was very inexpensive. (60 euro for 1 hour) Malaga is home to the Picasso Museum, the city he was born. The exhibit is walking distance from the hotel and takes about 1 hour or less to tour, depending if you read everything / listen to the audio or just prefer to observe. Malaga as a city, I did not find impressive. I felt it was small and somewhat dirty, nothing really to do. Although, there was a good vegetable paella! The main reason we choose to stay in Malaga is, we wanted to see Picasso's art exhibit and it is only 1 hour and 20 mins from where we were driving the next morning. If you do not care about Picasso, I would recommend not going to Malaga and instead fly into the airport and drive directly to Granada, where The Alhambra Palace and fortress complex is located. That is one of the most scenic, breathtaking works of Islamic architecture I have ever observed and the history is interesting. The hotel is very modern and clean which is important to me. The restaurant had delicious food and there are no complaints. Day 2 - The next morning we awoke by 7am and drove to Granada to tour The Alhambra Palace. It was designed as a military zone at the beginning, which makes sense since it is high on top of a mountain and surrounded by stone walls for protection. The Alhambra became the royal residence and court of Granada in the mid-13th century after the establishment of Nasrid Kingdom. I did not know that Islam had such a strong influence in Spain until I was driving this region and saw signs in Spanish and Arabic writing, as well as, touring this complex and learning of the history. The reason to get there early is, you do not have as many crowds and we wanted to utilize our time so we could tour it for 2-3 hours and then on to our next destination. When you first arrive at the Palace, you think okay, this looks interesting.....but it is not until you enter into the Palace is your mind blown by the intricate details within the architecture or the geometric patterns throughout and how they were very much into geometry and symmetry. I have never seen anything like it, on this large of a scale. There was room after room, one more beautiful than the next with fountains running throughout and eventually you are lead into an open space with a beautiful garden full of plants and flowers. When you reach this point in the tour, you assume you are close to the exit of the palace since you have seen so much and think their cannot possibly be more. There is more, and the more is sooo worth it! You eventually are lead out to a REAL garden of flowers that is filled with thousands and thousands that you are overwhelmed with the colors and wild nature of it. If you are a plant/flower lover, you will appreciate this space and if you are indifferent to flowers, you will still admire it. Hotels in Granada Palacio Gran Via, a Royal Hideaway Hotel Hospes Palacio de los Patos Seda Club Hotel After touring Alhambra Palace, we got into the car and drove 2 hours or less, depending how heavy your foot, to Marbella. We left Granada by around 12 noon and arrived in Marbella around 2pm. Marbella is very small, so you can tour the whole area in 1 day or of course extend your stay and use amenities at your hotel or go to the beach. We stayed at NOBU Hotel Marbella and it was exactly the vibe we were seeking. It was modern, clean and they have a few different restaurants of all different types of food in the middle of the hotel. It is the scene at night and people from different hotels come to have dinner, drink and dance to the DJ. The rooms are in different parts of the property and you feel like you are staying in your own cozy apartment. The décor on the walls with planters and flowers was exactly how I envisioned it, based on photos I had seen on Marbella. The hotel was walking distance to Marbella Club Hotel. I was between the two, but choose Nobu due to its nightlife, but we did have lunch at Marbella Club Hotel and it appeared very elegant, beautiful and tropical with the plants throughout the restaurant. There is another hotel 20 mins away called Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Benahavís Marbella Resort Day 3 - We have seen so much by utilizing all moments of our time - but now we must explore Seville! We drove 2 1/2 hours to Seville from Marbella early in the morning. We arrived at the Hotel Alfonso XIII which is a very captivating hotel. You feel like you are arriving back I time at a palace. The decor is elegant with a gothic vibe. It was built between 1916 and 1928, and officially inaugurated on 28 April 1929, with a celebration preceded by King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugeni. The hotel hosted many celebrity guests, such as; Ernest Hemingway, Audrey Hepburn and many more….. Hotels Hotel Alfonso XIII Hotel Mercer Sevilla CoolRooms Palacio Villapanés I must say, Seville hold a special place in my heart. Although I was only there for 2 days, I really fell in love with it. The charm of the city and the innocent energy it possesses. The weather is warm, the architecture is stunning, the history is rich and the palace and gardens you tour are peaceful. There are horses with carriage riding in the park and the city is very clean. You can tell the locals maintain its charm by making sure the appearance of everything is meticulous. The elevator was my favorite part of the hotel. I had never seen one like it before and I feel in love with it! It had buttons and a door like an accordion that closed like back in the early 1900s. It was my own personal Time Machine. We checked in and it was time to explore! We decided to wander the streets and see what we could find. There were many shops and restaurants. A gorgeous cathedral and many artistic features on the architecture. We walked at night and everywhere had bright lights and it felt very safe. Day 4 - We awoke early knowing it was our last day in Seville and we had things to see before our train to Madrid! As always, I booked a 10am tour of the Royal Alcázar of Seville. It is a 5 mins walk from the hotel. From the outside this Palace doesn’t seem impressive, but once inside you are captivated by its architectural and geometric details, much like The Alhambra Palace, except not as grand. The Palace is stunning and so are the gardens on the property. You can tour the property in 1 hour - 1 1/2 hours. After our tour, we walked 10 mins to Plaza de Espana and Parque de Maria Luisa. This park is very quaint and at the building that is in many photographs of Seville, there were flamingo dancers. It felt like authentic Spain. Setas de Sevilla It was time to go back to the hotel and get our bags to drive 30 mins to the train station. We took a “silent train” which I ever encountered, but it was actually nice to sit and relax without anyone being allowed to speak. The train ride was 2 1/2 hours. When we arrived in Madrid we dropped our bags at the hotel and explored the city. I didn’t get to see Palacio de las Dueñas, Seville, but next time! Madrid reminds me of a Metropolitain city, much like NYC, with some European architecture. It’s a very different atmosphere and energy from the other parts of Spain, especially Seville. Hotels Rosewood Villa Magna The Four Seasons Santo Mauro, a luxury collection hotel I did not take many photos of the city, since I didn’t think there was anything particular that captured my eye. If you want luxury shopping and high end restaurants, almost like a Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills or Design Distrct in Miami - explore Salamanca. Las Salesas (chic boutiques and cafés) There is a restaurant called Honest Greens and it is a delicious cafe with healthy options If you are interested in gardens and nice parks for nature. Sabatini Garden Cecilio Rodríguez Garden Rosaleda del Parque del Oeste Retiro Park Gran Vía is Madrid's most known blvd Plaza de Cibeles (fountain) Day 5 - Is it really time to go home? Yes, but before we do, we took the first tour early morning at the Madrid Royal Palace. If you are in Madrid, it’s definitely the highlight of the city and worth a visit. The flight back home was in the afternoon, so after the tour we went to the hotel to get our bags and drove to the airport. IF I HAD MORE TIME IN SEVILLE I WOULD HAVE TAKEN A DAY TRIP TO CORDOBA Leave on a 8-9am train 45 mins to Cordoba 20-minute walk (or 5-minute taxi) from the train station to the historic center. 9:30 AM Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba 5 mins walk Jewish quarters Calleja de las Flores (Street with flowers) 5 mins walk Roman Bridge of Córdoba Walk across the bridge for beautiful views of the city and the Mezquita. 10 mins walk Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos 10 mins Patios de Córdoba Calle Cruz Conde (near the train and center with shops and restaurants) Day Trips from Madrid Aranjuez - Royal Palace, riverside gardens, fountains, and tree-lined paths La Granja de San Ildefonso - Royal Palace and expansive French-style gardens near the mountains
- Saint Barthélemy
Saint Barthélemy: A Caribbean Paradise Saint Barthélemy, also known as St. Barths, is a French-speaking Caribbean island known for its pristine white-sand beaches, exquisite cuisine, luxurious hotels and villas, high-end designer boutiques, charming local shops, and impressive mega yachts. The best time to visit is in early December, when the weather is warm and pleasant, just before the holiday season brings an influx of tourists to the island. St. Barths is a small island, so I highly recommend renting a car to explore at your own pace, as Uber is not available. Most destinations are only 10–20 minutes apart, regardless of where you stay. Hotels can arrange taxi services, but fares are often expensive and charged at a flat rate. Getting There There are no direct international flights to St. Barths, so you’ll need to connect through another destination. One option is to fly into St. Martin, where you can take a ferry to St. Barths, with the journey typically lasting around an hour, or enjoy a scenic 10-minute flight on a small plane. Alternatively, you can fly into Puerto Rico and take an approximately one-hour flight to St. Barths with Tradewind Aviation. Where to Stay There are many wonderful hotels to choose from on the island, but my personal favorite is Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa This intimate, luxurious hotel offers modern, spacious rooms with spectacular views of the ocean or the bay, complemented by lush garden surroundings. The hotel sits on a beautiful beach with crystal-clear turquoise waters, where you may even spot sea turtles while kayaking. The hotel provides kayaks free of charge, making it easy to explore the bay and enjoy the island’s natural beauty. The service is exceptional, and the cuisine at the hotel’s restaurants is among the best I have ever experienced. Every detail contributes to an unforgettable stay. Located approximately 15 minutes by car from downtown Gustavia, the island’s vibrant capital, Le Barthélemy is also conveniently situated for exploring the area’s best restaurants, designer boutiques, and charming shops along the marina. Other HOTEL options to consider: Hotel Christopher (it doesn’t have a beach only a pool overlooking the ocean) Cheval Blanc Eden Rock Hotel Manapany Le Toiny (the beach is not on property) Arielles (opened in 2026) RESTAURANTS Tamarin (Drive 10 mins from hotel) - This hotel is by far my favorite and magical! The cuisine is delicious and the ambience is a lush garden. Le Petite Plage in Gustavia (Drive 18 mins from hotel) This restaurant offers a dance party vibe with an amazing DJ on Thursday - Saturday in season Le Cafe in Gustavia (Drive 20 mins from hotel) This restaurant has a piano player and singer so the vibe is swanky Bagatelle in Gustavia (Drive 20 mins from hotel) This restaurant has a party vibe with DJ and dancing on the table Black Ginger - This is a low key Thai restaurant in Gustavia ACTIVITIES Rent a boat for a few hours and see it by day or take in the sunset Jet ski you can rent from most hotels and they typically have kayak and other water sports Nature Hike 1. Colombier Beach Hike (20 mins drive from hotel) A popular 30-minute hike that starts at Flamands Beach and leads to a secluded white-sand beach 2. Pointe Milou Trail (7 mins drive from hotel) A 45-minute hike along the rugged coastline that starts at the Christopher Hotel 3. Natural Pools Trail (7 mins drive from hotel) A 30-minute hike that starts at the parking lot near Grand Fond and leads to natural pools for swimming and snorkeling Shopping- There are two shopping areas on the island. One is a 10 mins drive from the hotel and only has a few boutique and art gallery shops. The primary area to shop is 20 mins drive from the hotel and is in Gustavia. That is where you will find high end shops, boutique and tourist shops. It is small so you can walk the whole area within an hour. There are many restaurants in that area and it’s pretty to sit and watch the boats at the marina.
- WHEN IN ROME…..
History, Architecture, Nature, Shopping, Cuisine, Art, Nightlife and Activities! HOTEL OPTIONS Hotel Splendide Royal The First Roma Arte The First Roma Dolce The St. Regis Rome J.K. Place Rome Aleph Rome Hotel Rocco Forte Six Scenes Hotel Fendi Private Suites Palazzo Shedir AREAS TO EXPLORE /TOURS Spanish Steps The Colosseum Roman Forum Trevi Fountain Day trip to Tivoli and visit (Villa d’ Este and Villa Gregoriana) Villa Borghese Galleria Doria Pamphilj Vatican City Trastevere Pantheon Chiostro del Bramante Palazzo Colonna is one of Rome's oldest and largest private palaces Where to wonder Trastevere – Charming streets, cafés, and lively evening atmosphere. LUXURY SHOPPING Via Condotti – Home to boutiques including Hermès, Fendi, Bulgari, Gucci, and Prada. Via del Babuino – Luxury shopping with a slightly quieter atmosphere. Via Borgognona – Another elegant street filled with designer boutiques. RESTAURANTS The coffee pot (nightlife) Terre Mare rooftop restaurant Hotel de Russe (Garden restaurant) Rome is a city that you can explore in full within 3-4 days, but it’s worth giving yourself a 1-2 additional days to see small villages outside of the city. Most things in Rome are walking distance or only a brief taxi ride. The Spanish Steps It is a tourist area that has stairs you can sit on and relax while you take in the people watching scene. It is in a shopping district, so shops and restaurants are surrounding it. I would not say it’s a must see, but if you have time and you are in the area, it’s worth a visit. Trevi Fountain It’s always packed with tourist no matter if you go early morning, afternoon or night - but it’s still worth visiting since there is a magical energy to it. The Colosseum We did a private guided tour of the colosseum and Roman Forum. I wish I could find the contact info since the guide was exceptional! I believe these locations should be toured with a private guide so you can really learn at your own pace and ask questions since the structure and history are fascinating! The Roman Forum The forum was important in Ancient Rome. It was the scene of public meetings, law courts, and gladiatorial combats in republican times and was lined with shops and open-air markets. Villa Borghese Is a property you can tour and connected to a park that is tranquil. There is a charming small cafe you can sit and have lunch or a coffee overlooking a pond. The park is also connected to a zoo. Galleria Doria Pamphilj Is a large private art collection, inside a Palace. it is stunning inside and reminds me of most Royal Estates, but Italian style. Pantheon Chiostro del Bramante This space hosts different art exhibits. We saw the “MICHELANGELO PISTOLETTO INFINITY - l'arte contemporanea senza limiti” Trastevere This area is the “trendy” part of Rome. It is artistic and at night it has many restaurants and lounges to have dinner, drinks and dance! Villa Medici DAY TRIP OPTIONS: Villa Lante Elegant Renaissance gardens Cascading fountains Geometric hedges Fewer crowds than Villa d’Este About 1 1/2 hours from Rome Tivoli and Or Castel Gandolfo Castel Gandolfo is 30 mins from Rome and 40 mins from Tivoli - it’s a charming village that the Pope stays for a vacation home. It is on Lake Albano. Visit the Papal Palace & Barberini Gardens The main attraction is the former papal summer residence. You can tour: The historic papal apartments Beautiful formal gardens with fountains, sculptures, and ancient Roman ruins Peaceful walking paths with panoramic views Tivoli is a quaint village 40 mins drive or 50 mins train from Rome. It is 100% worth visiting! It has 2 beautiful gardens to tour, Villa d’ Este and Villa Gregoriana. I recommend touring Villa Gregoriana first and Villa d’ Este second since it’s more impressive. I think the last tour should always be the best one! Villa d’Este is one of the most incredible Villa / Gardens I’ve ever seen. The property is a hidden gem like a secret garden with unbelievable fountains throughout the garden.
- TAORMINA, SICILY
"To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything." - Goethe Sicily is a stunning island off the coast of southern Italy. You can fly there direct with limited availability from most airports throughout Europe. I flew from Naples, Italy which was was a brief 50 minute flight. There are 2 opposite parts of the island, each having its own airport; Palermo (west side) and Catania (east side). I have not traveled to Palermo, but after much research and speaking to those who have been, it didn’t sound like somewhere worth exploring. Catania region that is connected to Taormina (north) and Siracusa (south) on the east side are the villages you want to explore. I stayed in Taormina which was perfection. It is considered the most “luxurious” part of Sicily, due to its 5 star hotel options, Michelin-starred Restaurants and few designer shops in the village. The 3 most luxurious hotels in Taormina are: Grand Hotel Timeo, A Belmond Hotel, Taormina Belmond Villa Sant Andrea (it’s on the beach) San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel More reasonable 5 star hotels: Atlantis Bay Mazzarò Sea Palace I decided to stay at the Four Seasons since the hotel and amenities are much more modern in addition to it having one of the most beautiful infinity pools I have ever seen online and confirmed in real life! The service was impeccable and honestly, the most attentive - detailed hotel I’ve ever experienced. The moment I checked in they took care of everything and noted it was a special occasion so took the opportunity to make it feel special by adding rose pedals to my bed that wrote, “I love you” and provided me complimentary champagne and dessert. They also provide guests with pool tote bags, 2 hats and sunglasses. There is a garden that you pass through on your way to the pool and you can smell the vibrant flowers. The property has 2 restaurants: Michelin-starred, Principe Cerami, and a casual Mediterranean restaurant, Anciovi, that is by the pool with views overlooking Sicily. Principe Cerami is fancy, but worth it! You should request the Terrance for seating since it’s very romantic. The chef is extremely creative with presentation and flavor. There is a lounge outside the restaurant that has live music to relax and have a cocktail before or after dinner. Anciovi serves lunch and dinner. It is a more casual setting. The view is beautiful overlooking the ocean and Sicily. At night you see the city lights! The extravagant breakfast buffet is served at Principe Cerami. The breakfast was delicious and you have an endless amount of options. If you decide you want to stay in and order room service, which is one of my favorite things to do - it was the best room service I have ever had and I recommend the chicken burger. If you want to adventure to Siracusa, it will be a 1 hour and 40 mins drive from Taormina. I wanted to explore that village, but did not have time during my stay. I decided to use my 3 full days to relax by the breathtaking infinity pool, utilize the amenities and explore Taormina. The village that is filled with all shops and restaurants is right outside the hotel. If you walk 15 mins you reach Teatro Antico - an amphitheater that appears from the exterior to be an abandoned ancient archeological ruin site, but once you go inside you realize it is actually still used today for events. They host musical concerts and plays on stage. The Belmond Hotel is right next to this site so you can enjoy lunch or dinner with a view overlooking Sicily and tour the garden. They do not allow the public to just walk in, but if to say you are going to the restaurant, they allow you to enter and after that you are free to tour the property. There is a public beach called Isola Bella Villa Comunale di Taormina - A beautiful park about a 10 mins walk from hotel RESTAURANTS Vineria Modì Ethica Chef’s Table and Garden St. George Restaurant by Heinz Beck If you want to day trip or stay somewhere else in Sicily Etna - the famous volcano you can tour and explore or visit a winery Savoca - Overlooking the Ionian coast, it is celebrated both for its centuries-old architecture and as one of the filming locations of The Godfather. Savoca is recognized among I Borghi più belli d’Italia (“The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”) for its historic character and panoramic scenery. (30 mins drive from Taormina) Siracusa - A charming village on the ocean that has many shops and restaurants (1 hour and 30 mins drive from Taormina) Hotels Palazzo Artemide - waking distance to everything - A modern boutique hotel in Ortigia, Siracusa Hotel Des Etrangers - A charming luxury hotel with amenities (pool, gym, spa) Things to see in Ortigia Piazza Duomo Duomo di Siracusa Fonte Aretusa Seafront walk (Lungomare) Wander the side streets Noto - A charming village (1 hour and 40 mins drive from Taormina) Things to see in Noto Cattedrale di San Nicolò Corso Vittorio Emanuel (street everything is on it) Palazzo Nicolaci Hotels Gagliardi Boutique Hotel - A baroque hotel in the center that has a rooftop overlooking the cathedral Q92 Noto - boutique with an eccentric charm Seven Rooms Villadorata - is a luxury boutique hotel within the historic Palazzo Nicolaci in the heart of Noto’s Baroque area Il San Corrado di Noto - This is the most luxurious hotel in the Noto area. - MILAN / LAKE MAGGIORE / PORTOFINO / CINQUE TERRE
Milan, Italy: Where Modern Luxury Meets European Charm Milan is one of Italy’s most modern and cosmopolitan cities. It retains the timeless European charm of destinations like Rome and Florence, but with a more metropolitan vibe and a distinctly fashionable edge. The shopping is AMAZING! From high-end designer boutiques to charming local shops, Milan is a dream destination for fashion lovers. The restaurants are equally impressive, offering delicious Italian cuisine and unforgettable dining experiences. There are also plenty of historical landmarks to explore, and one absolute must-see is the Duomo di Milano. This magnificent cathedral has a special energy about it and is truly a sight to behold. When purchasing tickets, be sure to include access to both the interior of the cathedral and the rooftop terrace, which requires an additional fee depending on your ticket. The rooftop offers spectacular panoramic views of Milan and an up-close look at the cathedral’s intricate architectural details and stunning spires. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss! Right next to the cathedral is a beautiful shopping district, with even more boutiques and stores lining the surrounding streets. It’s the perfect area to spend an afternoon shopping, exploring, and soaking up Milan’s unique blend of history, culture, and modern sophistication. Milan Hotels Four Seasons Palazzo Parigi Bulgari Park Hyatt Portrait Milan Me Milan Il Duca Excelsior Hotel Gallia Casa Baglioni The Carlton, a Rocco Forte Hotel VIU is a modern / clean hotel, that isn’t as expensive as other options. The only thing is, it’s somewhat off the beaten path of the heart of Milan but still a brief taxi drive away Armani Hotel - Located in the heart of the shopping district of the city and walking distance to all the best locations - the room was spacious and modern with a large walk in closet and bathroom with shower and separate bathtub Milan Restaurants Paper Moon Giardino is one of my favorite restaurants in Milan. It has a lovely outdoor hidden patio that is covered in the event of rain but still cozy and surrounded by plants. There is indoor seating as well but if you can sit outside, it’s preferred. Gloria Osteria Milano Activities - The last supper by Leonardo da Vinci Duomo di Milano - make sure to get tickets to tour the rooftop Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - shopping plaza with scenic architecture next to duomo (Go to the top for insane view on path) Leonardo Da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology Palazzo Reale di Milano (Royal Palace Milan) Museo del 900, Milan - 20th Century Italian Art and one of the best views of the Duomo Starbucks Reserve - one of the most beautiful Starbucks that allows you to see their process of coffee making through glass Day trip to Lake Como (1 hour and 30 mins drive) to Como and then additional time as you go up either side of the lake Day Trip 45 mins to Villa Borromeo Visconti Litta - charming villa / garden outside of Milan Day trip to Lake Maggorie (1 hour and 30 mins drive) If you want to stay overnight Boutique Hotel Stresa is in a great location. It’s a modern hotel with a stunning rooftop. Giardini Botanici di Villa Taranto (20 mins drive from Stresa hotel) Park Villa Pallavicino (3 mins drive from Stresa hotel) Giardino dell'isola Bella (20 mins drive from Stresa hotel and then you take a short boat ride) Orto botanico Isola Madre (20 mins drive from Stresa hotel and short boat ride) (***This is on the same Island as Giardino dell'isola Bella) Day trip to Portofino (2 hours and 30 mins) or stay overnight PORTOFINO A day trip to Portofino would be worth it since it’s a very small area you can easily explore in a day, but I recommend if possible, stay 1-2 nights. You can stay more if you are the type of person who doesn’t bore easily and can sit by a pool for hours or rent a boat for the day. You can also day trip to CINQUE TERRE from Portofino. It’s a 1 hour and 15 mins drive to the first part of it. The best hotel in Portofino with its picturesque view and close proximity to the shops is, Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel. This hotel is part of the Splendido, A Belmond Hotel. The different between the two are, the “Mare” is down by the marina and shops where as the main hotel with the restaurants and pool are perched up on a cliff. The “mare” is newer so their rooms are more modern, but you will have to walk 15 mins to the main hotel or wait for a shuttle that is a 5 mins drive. It was raining the 2 days I was there so my photos aren’t as vibrant as they should be. Nonetheless, we loved our stay. We had a very unforgettable experience at our dinner, due to an extremely rare heavy rainstorm. The rain was pouring down on the property and all of a sudden we heard a loud noise close proximity to us and we looked over to see the ceiling gave in. (You can see the photo below) and the servers and host of the hotel were very professional and played it cool and tried to continue the dinner service as if nothing happened. The ceiling fell twice and they ended up comping our entire dinner but to be honest, it was a memorable moment and it didn’t take away from our dinner. We laughed about it. CINQUE TERRE Cinque Terre Consists of 5 villages: Monterosso al Mare Vernazza Corniglia Manarola Riomaggiore Trains run every 15–20 minutes and stop at each of the five villages. Each village is 5-10 mins distance from the next village. Tickets cost between €5–10 per journey. It was very clean and modern. It was very simple to get to each village as the are small, walkable and close to the train station to easily access it and travel to the next village. I only explored the first two and found them to be adorable. There is mostly tourist gifts to purchase and some clothes, but nothing fancy. There are many restaurants to choose from for lunch or dinner. They do have a nice beach at Monterosso al Mare that you can rent chairs. Vernazza Vernazza was okay. Very small and tourist consumed. Not one I would say is “worth” visiting. If you are in the area and have time you might as well, but nothing you need to go out of your way to see it.
